Every year upon receiving my 4WD insurance renewal, I take a few hours to ring various insurance companies, to compare prices and cover options.

My 80 Series Land Cruiser has an extensive list of accessories, and finding the appropriate level of cover is always a battle. RAC has had my business for many years, and I’ve been relatively happy with them, except for the total insured amount. This year again, they were competitive, but the value of my 4WD continues to drop (despite being maxed out!). You expect this, but know that in the event of your 4WD being written off, it would never cover the true cost of a replacement with the same level of accessories.

I’d heard whispers of Club 4×4 insurance, and decided it would be worth a couple of minutes to get a quote and have a chat to them. With the number of 4WD’s in Australia, it’s about time a dedicated insurance company was set up around 4WD’s. The level of cover required is vastly different to your run of the mill car insurance, and to be able to speak to a company that understands how 4WD’s are used was a huge breath of fresh air.

Club 4×4 were extremely helpful in answering my many questions surrounding their cover, and surprised me several times with what they offer. They cover the true value of your accessories, theft at camp, off road recovery and have a level of understanding and options that far surpasses any insurance company I’ve ever dealt with. Their premium was more expensive than what I had been paying, but I feel the level of quality reflects this.

To top it off, their honesty surrounding modifications to a 4WD is pleasing to see. Unlike other insurance companies, there’s no hiding behind pages and pages of fine print until someone has an accident, and then finds out they aren’t actually covered.

If you are looking for a competitive, quality insurance company that really understands 4WD’s, take a look at Club 4×4.

The Golden Rules of Off-Road Towing

Off-road towing puts big loads through every part of your vehicle, and if the setup isn’t right, things can unravel quickly. Broken components, poor control, and near-miss moments usually come back to the same few fundamentals. Get those right, and towing in the bush becomes predictable, controlled, and far more enjoyable.
